OVERCOMING HATRED

As I get up in the morning and have a glance through the headlines of the paper there seems no day without any crime. Is today’s world turning into a place of hatred leading to rise in crime and cruelty? This brings to the point to know what Hatred is.

The word hatred means "The emotion of intense dislike; a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action.

Hatred in general is a vehement aversion entertained by one person for another, or for something more or less identified with that other. It can be used in a wide variety of contexts, from hatred of inanimate objects to hatred of other people.

The reason we hate something is because we either do not understand the reason for that hatred, or because that something has an adverse affect upon us.

Let us see what one can do to overcome hatred?

a) Assess the hatred: Is it based on what is real or on what is imagined?
Determine if the person or group of people intentionally set out to hurt, abuse, neglect, or mistreat.

b) Analyze whether or not the person or group of people knew how adversely the hatred behavior has affected.

c) Identify what relevant facts were lacking for the person or group of persons in their dealings?

d) Analyze what the opposite person’s thinking was like at the time of mistreatment.

e) Identify the irrational component of thinking about this mistreatment and replace it with more rational and realistic thinking.

f) Perform anger work-out sessions until the hatred has been exhausted to the point where one can forgive and forget the past.

g) Admit that even if the person set out to hurt, knowing fully well how badly it would feel, it will not do any good to harbor this hatred. It will unnecessarily exhaust the emotional energy hence the best is to let go of it and get on with life.
